Brilliant Teaser Trailer For Bennett Miller’s ‘Foxcatcher’ Starring Carell, Ruffalo & Tatum

The troubled life of schizophrenic millionaire John Du Pont is being brought to the big-screen by Oscar-nominated director Bennett Miller. The film will chronicle the later, tormented years of the man, played by an unrecognisable Steve Carell, who built the Team Foxcatcher Olympic training camp using his wealth. Sadly, the tragic tale of Du Pont subsequent shooting dead lifelong friend and sporting star David Shultz made shocking headlines around the world.

ZODIAC actor Mark Ruffalo plays his friend and victim, the man he shot dead in 1996, with Channing Tatum taking the role of Schultz’ brother and fellow Olympic wrestler Michael. Check out the outstanding first teaser trailer just below the official synopsis:

FOXCATCHER tells the story of Olympic Gold Medal-winning wrestler Mark Schultz (Tatum), who sees a way out from the shadow of his more celebrated wrestling brother Dave (Ruffalo) and a life of poverty when he is summoned by eccentric multi-millionaire John du Pont (Carell) to move onto his estate and train for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Desperate to gain the respect of his disapproving mother, du Pont begins “coaching” a world-class athletic team and, in the process, lures Mark into dangerous habits, breaks his confidence and drives him into a self-destructive spiral. Based on actual events, FOXCATCHER is a gripping and profoundly American story of fragile men who pinned their hopes for love and redemption on a desperate obsession for greatness that was to end in tragedy.

REMOVED AT THE REQUEST OF STUDIO

The film also stars Sienna Miller, Vanessa Redgrave, Anthony Michael Hall and is slated to hit the US 20th December and the UK 17th January 2014. Expect it to feature strongly during awards season.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
