It appears at least one of George Lucas’ iconic space saga characters is pretty much guaranteed a return in Disney and Lucasfilm’s soon-to-shoot sequel STAR WARS: EPISODE VII.

A UK casting call has gone out via agency Spotlight, who are asking for male actors over 7 ft tall, which could be a confirmation in itself that loveable walking rug and Wookie, Chewbacca, is in line for a part in the film being directed by J.J. Abrams from a script by Oscar-winner Michael Arndt. It states the role is for an “UNTITLED STUDIO FEATURE” being produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and Tommy Harper, and begins production “early 2014”. It’s not too hard to piece those clues together.

Male, 7 ft to 7.3 ft tall with a slim/thin build and upright posture. Not too worked out or too ‘thick set’ especially in the shoulders. Broad facial features would be a bonus.

Unfortunately, the original Chewbacca, Peter Mayhew, recently underwent knee surgery and is not expected to return. He’s now knocking on for 70 anyway. The trio of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are expected to return as the older versions of their iconic characters, while Billy Dee Williams’ Lando Calrission also rumoured for an appearance.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
