There has been some discussion over what the BBC’s new television series ATLANTIS is going to be about. What’s with the characters from Greek mythology, for example? This new clip however has finally confirmed that the show will indeed take place in the eponymous city under the sea. In the clip, actor Jason Donnelly, credited as Jason (of Argonaut fame), looks over the side of a boat and says he is going to follow his father ‘down there’. The worrying part? He never came back.
This two-worlds aspect of the show could be very interesting, though we can as of yet only speculate on the relationship between Atlantis and the world above the waves. Do they know about each other’s existence? And what’s with the characters from Greek mythology? Looking at the cast list, we see characters like Hercules (Game of Thrones’ Mark Addy) and Medusa (Jemima Rooper). The existence of Atlantis was postulated in antiquity, but Atlantis doesn’t feature in Greek myth. I, for one, am very intrigued.
