The long planned Tupac Shakur biopic TUPAC has finally been granted financing and will go before the cameras in 2014, according to Deadline. We’ve been searching through our archives and we’ve found we’ve been reporting on the planned flick since 2011 when John Singleton was attached to direct. He isn’t any more, and neither is Antoine Fuqua, who was also at one time attached.
Deadline reports that Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Morgan Creek Productions will provide the money for the film, which will shoot in Atlanta in February with a reported $45 million budget. Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft are writing the script, which they are reportedly aiming to deliver within the next two weeks.
Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s mother will serve as co-producer on the film, which has full right’s to the fallen rapper’s back catalogue.
The next question will be who will play the famous rapper, who was gunned down in Las Vegas in 1996. Thoughts?
