LEGO has been a prevalent part of pop-culture for over sixty years now with the public seemingly never getting tired of it. The popularity of the brand has increased over the past few years with a boost in LEGO products across all platforms of media such as video games and direct to DVD films.

As a result of the boost in multi-platform marketing of the brand, the LEGO group will be releasing THE LEGO MOVIE next year as well as two other big screen films featuring the famous building bricks. THE LEGO MOVIE is directed by the duo who bought us last years brilliant 21 JUMP STREET Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and stars the talented cast of Channing Tatum, Will Arnett, Cobie Smulders, Jonah Hill, Will Ferrell and Morgan Freeman as the voices of the animated LEGO heroes. The trailer for the film was released earlier this year and looks to be as delightfully bonkers and entertaining as you would expect, with the inclusion of Superman and Batman as my particular highlights.

Now First Showing has word that the LEGO group has planned not one but two more LEGO related films. First up is a documentary titled BEYOND THE BRICK: A LEGO BRICKUMENTARY from Oscar winning film maker Daniel Junge and Oscar nominated director Kief Davidson, which will ‘unspool through the lens of culture, art, and education’. The film is said to feature fans of all ages and is aiming for an early 2014 release.

Word on the next LEGO related film comes from The Hollywood Reporter who have the exclusive scoop that a NINJAGO movie is in development from Warner Bros. and director Charlie Bean, who was responsible for the animated TRON prequel TRON: UPRISING starring Elijah Wood. Bean will direct the film from a script written by brothers Dan and Kevin Hageman, although no word on when a release date is pencilled in for ones things for sure the next two years we will definitely be seeing a lot of LEGO products on the big screen.

We’ll update you with any additional news that comes our way on LEGO related films.
