James Gunn Clarifies ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Casting Rumours

Having witnessed the awesome footage from James Gunn’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, I have no doubt the SLITHER and SUPER director was the right man for the job for the strange Marvel universe that many believe is the studios riskiest project yet. The hilarious Chris Pratt looks an natural fit as the charismatic, cocky half human/half alien Peter Quill (aka Star Lord), while his fellow Guardians and the villains include some high-profile names.

As for the supporting cast, we already now Gunn frequenters Gregg Henry and Michael Rooker are involved in some capacity but the filmmaker has spoken about others included and that you shouldn’t believe everything you read on the internet.

IMDb is not always correct. Even right now I believe it contains misinformation. A complete cast list will not be released until closer before release – and we are not currently releasing a list of all the characters in the film. That said, Stephen Blackehart and my brother Sean are in the film but my good friend Steve Agee is unfortunately not. Although he would make a great Thanos. Besides my brother and Gregg Henry, and a couple of others, we pretty much cast all of the supporting roles out of England. There’s a lot of take there, so it wasn’t hard! I love working with Steve, though – he’s a great friend and an incredibly funny guy.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is slated for cinemas from 1st August 2014 and also features Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Ophelia Lovibond, Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Djimon Honsou, Glenn Close, Peter Serafinowicz and John C. Reilly.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
