It may have come out in November 2011, but the BBC are to premiere Nick Murphy’s THE AWAKENING on Saturday September 21st on BBC Two. This premiere may have something to do with a reasonable critical success and interest with his recent film BLOOD which starred Stephen Graham and Paul Bettany.

THE AWAKENING goes along with the tag ‘Are Ghosts Real?‘ which, if we’re being logical, no of course not! But it sets up the psychological thriller with a very respectable cast of Rebecca Hall, Dominic West, Imelda Staunton and Isaac Hempstead-Wright. Here’s an official synopsis:

In 1921 Florence Cathcart (Rebecca Hall) is living in post-war England where many people are seeking solace and comfort in the mystical and spiritual. Haunted by the death of her fiancé, Florence is committed to debunking supernatural claims, using methodical and rational explanations. When she is asked to visit a boarding school in the countryside called Rookwood – to investigate the alleged sightings of a ghostly young boy – she feels compelled to take the job.

It’s co-written with Murphy by Stephen Volk and due to be shown at 21:30 and could be a great way to share a spooky, probably cold wintry evening under the covers. Enjoy!
