Some people argue that we spend more time in front of our computer screens than interacting in the real world. When those people argue such nonsense I simply click the big red ‘X’ in the top right hand corner. TIMECRIMES director, Nacho Vigalondo, has decided to turn this idea into a high concept thriller. If you thought found footage were pushing their luck, then how about an entire film that emulates a person’s desktop? It’s obviously a huge risk, but from this first trailer it may very well be that Vigalondo has pulled it off.
Elijah Wood stars as a fan who misses out on the chance to see his idol. He is soon contacted by a mysterious man who gives Wood access to hidden camera footage of his idol, Sasha Grey. What follows is a cat and mouse game compiled of different browser windows and webcam footage. It all looks very interesting, and as a fan of found footage it will certainly appeal to me. However, this is one style of film making I wouldn’t want to see copied too often.
OPEN WINDOWS is yet to receive a distributor. It stars Elijah Wood, Sasha Grey, and Neil Maskell.
