AMISTAD and NEVER BACK DOWN star Djimon Hounsou has joined the growing cast of director James Wan’s FAST 7 (or FAST AND FURIOUS 7 as it is referred to elsewhere). He joins Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Ronda Rousey, Jason Statham and Tony Jaa for the new adventure, which is set to take place largely in Los Angeles, the location of the first movie.
We have no details as to which character Hounsou will play, or any further plot details, apart from the above.
Minor spoilers ahead.
Variety, the source for this news still lists Kurt Russell as starring, but we’ve heard reports this evening that he has departed the project. A FF7 Twitter account, which has been tweeting some exclusive set pics, say that Russell is not on board now (if he ever was at all). The account says that he was set to play the father of ‘Jesse,’ and was set to be the villain of the piece, working alongside Statham’s Ian Shaw, to take revenge on Dominic Torretto (Diesel) and his family. Jesse was a character from the first movie, who was a tech guy working for Torretto, who was killed in a drive-by.
We’ve embedded some of the tweets below, however we add once again, Variety, who broke the news of Russell’s casting, still list him as being involved.
Kurt Russel was almost about to join #Fast7. He would play the father of Jesse, and he would be Toretto’s villain.

He would work together with @realjstatham in the film, as Ian Shaw in #Fast7, to take revenge on Toretto and his family.

We’ll keep you posted.
