The first clip has been released today for French filmmaker and novelist Catherine Breillat’s ABUSE OF WEAKNESS, adapted from her book of the same name. Breillat herself is the inspiration for lead character Maud, played by Isabelle Huppert. Maud is a stroke-suffering director, who gets involved with a conman named Vilko Piran (played by Kool Sheen). The story is based on the Breillat’s real-life experience of being enticed into giving her life savings to an actor set to appear in one of her films that ended up not being made. This personal and emotional investment of the director into the project is a unique touch that will likely be in the film’s favour.
This first clip is interesting as audiences can get their first taste of the somewhat unusual style of filming, with the camera positioned quite far from actress Huppert. Expect more details to land closer to the film’s release:
ABUSE OF WEAKNESS hits French cinemas in February 2014.
