Robert De Niro may have slipped into the world of comedy and unfortunate self-parody over the last decade, but no one can deny how much fun the man seems to be having. For Luc Besson’s THE FAMILY, the genres of gangster epic and comedy will meld in much the same way as De Niro’s ANALYZE THIS. Thankfully, it appears as though the violence and mobster antics will be taking the lead rather than the comedic elements.
De Niro stars in this film about a mobster who goes into witness protection and hides out, with his family, in Normandy. Tommy Lee Jones is the agent assigned to protect De Niro, which becomes more and more difficult as De Niro misses the life he left behind. There’s lots of cool ingredients to make this film exciting, with Martin Scorsese executive producing and De Niro referencing Al Capone, a role he’s played. The trailer packs in plenty of action, violence, and a few laughs.
THE FAMILY is released in the US on 13th September and in the UK on 1st November. It stars Robert De Niro, Tommy Lee Jones, Michelle Pfeiffer, Diana Agron, and John D’Leo.
