Katherine Heigl Joins The CIA For NBC

Katherine Heigl

She rose to stardom playing a doctor on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and now Katherine Heigl is taking on another stressful job, this time as a secret agent! It’s been confirmed the actress will lead the as-yet untitled project for NBC which is being written by Body of Proof and Castle writer Alexi Hawley.  The drama has been described as Scandal meets The West Wing (sounds promising!) and will centre on Heigl’s character who is thrust into the lime light when she is picked to become the President’s new daily briefer.

Since parting ways with Grey’s Anatomy after five years in 2010 Heigl has made a name for herself on the big screen in a variety of romantic comedies including 27 DRESSES, THE UGLY TRUTH, LIFE AS WE KNOW IT and THE BIG WEDDING.

Here’s what Heigl had to say about her new project:

‘I have been passionate about, and enthralled by, this project from the moment Hank, Rodney and Bob brought it to me over a year ago. The story is not only compelling and intelligent but a look behind the curtain at the CIA we haven’t seen before in film or television. I am thrilled and honored to have been asked to be a part of developing these stories and this character and bringing it all to life. NBC has been a true partner in their passion and support for the show that we’ve dreamed of making, and I could not be happier about joining forces with them. Together, with our brilliant writer Alexi Hawley, I believe we are going to make great television!’

Further casting information – who will play the President?! – and scheduling details are yet to be announced.
