Simon Rumley Lands ‘The Last Word’

The British writer and director behind the astonishingly brutal, brilliant and character driven revenge thriller RED, WHITE & BLUE has landed a new controversial horror project. Simon Rumley will helm FilmDistrict’s supernatural suspense thriller THE LAST WORD, which has a script inspired by actual events by Ben Ketai (30 DAYS OF NIGHT: DARK DAYS).

The plot will focus on the strange aftermath of a Texan trial in which a young man was wrongly convicted and executed for the horrific rape and murder of a local nun. Those prosecution and jury participants sealing the fate of the unfortunate individual become the tragic victims of a mysterious curse which begins wiping them all out one-by-one.

Given Rumley’s depiction of unforgiving violence and gripping storytelling in his underrated stark stand out 2010 film, the story could be another harsh look at the human condition and its flaws with a paranormal twist.

THE LAST WORD is expected to shoot very soon for a release in 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
