A brand new supernatural thriller is on the way based on the underrated Australian horror hit from 1978. A film a remember catching in my early teens with an eerie feel similar to David Cronenberg’s THE DEAD ZONE and Brian DePalma’s CARRIE, PATRICK centred on young patient who murdered his mother, who, now comatose, is sent to psychiatric hospital to undergo an experimental treatment. However, it’s something PATRICK is not too keen on and when he develops telekinetic powers, he’s soon causing carnage.
The same-titled remake, expected to be faithful to the original film directed by Richard Franklin, has just released an international trailer and poster. It stars current YOU’RE NEXT actress Sharni Vinson, SIX FEET UNDER’s Rachel Griffiths and Brit icon Charles Dance. Mark Hartley directs the film still awaiting release details for both the UK and US. It hits its Aussie homeland from 17th October.
For three years Patrick has been lying mute and immobile, a patient in Dr Roget’s clinic for the comatose. Dr Roget has been discharging increasingly large doses of electricity into Patrick’s brain, hoping for a sign of brain function. When young nurse Kathy starts working at the clinic, Patrick figures out how to utilise all that pent up power with deadly effect.
