Andrew Davis, director of THE FUGITIVE, talked recently with CraveOnline and revealed some details about his current project.
A departure from his previous film THE GUARDIAN, released in 2006, Davis is working on family adventure film THIEVES’ FORTUNE, a modern-day update of Robert Louis Stevenson’s seminal 1883 classic ‘Treasure Island’, the novel that brought the romanticised view of Golden Age piracy to the public imagination on a scale that had never before been heard of. Set in post-Katarina Louisiana, Davis says the film is about the treasure of French pirate Jean LaFitte and that it ‘could be a really interesting, fun movie that could be about something and still be very entertaining’. He went on to say that Midnight Run writer George Gallo is inolved with the script and Cary Brokaw will be producing, though currently no studio has taken up the film.
A pirate-style adventure set in today’s world sounds like it could be a very promising idea. Whether the film will rule the Seven Seas or be made to walk the plank, we will have to wait and sea (I am so sorry).
The 20th Anniversary Blu-ray of THE FUGITIVE is released tomorrow.
