After working with Ben Affleck in the forthcoming RUNNER, RUNNER, part time singer and actor Justin Timberlake has expressed an interest in joining BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. After last week’s announcement about Affleck being the next actor to don the cape and cowl, rumours are rife as to who will join him and Henry Cavill. Earlier this week Matt Damon confirmed that as much as he and Ben were close friends there was no way he would be playing Robin, stating he was too old for the role.
Next on the list of potential Robins was Timberlake who also ruled out playing this part but did not rule out a role in the film. Speaking on radio station Fresh 102.7’s Jim and Kim Show, he explained that he has no interest in ever being a superhero on film as he much prefers the idea of being a villain. The role that he wants to play is The Riddler, ‘The Riddler is my favorite villain. The Riddler was like a sociopath. He was proper crazy. So if I’m gonna play crazy, I’m wanna play proper crazy.’
Though the villains have yet to be confirmed for the Snyder sequel, it looks likely that Lex Luthor will definitely be one of them. The last time The Riddler made a film appearance was in Joel Schmacher’s BATMAN FOREVER where he was played by Jim Carrey, and could well be a character deranged enough to take on both Superman and Batman.
Timberlake isn’t the first star to link the character to the film, Noah Segan, star of last year’s brilliant Rian Johnson directed LOOPER, has also put his name forwards for any potential Riddler role. A life-long fan of comics Segan took to twitter last week to voice his views on Ben Affleck as Batman and found himself being asked by followers if he would play Lex Luthor to which he replied, ‘And show up Hackman? Never. Gimme Riddler.’
BATMAN VS SUPERMAN will be directed by Zack Synder, starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill is set to be released summer 2015.
