It was recently announced that Philip Seymour Hoffman would take a pivotal role in Daniel Espinosa’s forthcoming adaptation of Tom Rob Smith’s dark novel, CHILD 44. Sadly, the Oscar-winning CAPOTE actor has had to drop out and is being replaced with the ever-intense Vincent Cassel. The film already has a superb main cast in place, with Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Noomi Rapace and Joel Kinnaman all included in the Summit Entertainment production.

The Stalin era Soviet Union-set thriller centres on a security guard and former war hero named Leo Demidov (Hardy), whose decision to investigate a series of child murders in a controversial country where the state refuses to believe such crimes are being committed, leaves him out in the cold. After being demoted and exiled, Leo, with just the help of his wife (Rapace), continues in pursuing the cases to discover the horrifying truth – that a child serial-killer is being allowed to roam free.

CHILD 44 is set for release later next year.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
