Cumberbatch Fails To Scale Del Toro’s ‘Crimson Peak’

Benedict Cumberbatch

The brilliant British thespian Benedict Cumberbatch, last seen on the big-screen as the villain of STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, has vacated Guillermo Del Toro‘s in-development gothic horror CRIMSON PEAK. The Legendary Pictures production will be centred on woman (currently a role slated for Jessica Chastain), who discovers that her new husband is not at all who he claims to be. They are no details about the actor’s decision but it’s certainly not due to scheduling conflicts. It’s looking likely that creative differences is the problem (or possibly he’s just gotten round to seeing PACIFIC RIM and realised it was bloody terrible).

Fear not though. We’ll still be able to catch Cumberbatch in forthcoming films, 12 YEARS AS A SLAVE, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, THE FIFTH ESTATE and voice work in Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT sequels.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
