She might look as dreamy and detectable as a Princess but Hayley Atwell’s joining the cast of CINDERELLA will not see her as the iconic fairytale title-character. Of course, we’ve know for quite sometime that rising actress Lily James will play the eponymous princess in the film being directed by THOR’s Kenneth Branagh. Atwell revealed herself via Twitter that she was:

It came as a surprise as she’s since not been included on any press releases but perhaps she’s a late appointment. She’ll also join Richard Madden, playing the prince charming, Helena Bonham Carter as the fairy godmother, Stellen Skargaard as the Grand Duke and Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett is the wicked stepmother. No word as yet on Atwell’s role but we’re thinking a possible ugly step-sister? Okay, maybe not! Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera are also included.

***UPDATE***

In an recent BBC interview, Atwell hinted what role she’ll take:

I’ve been at Pinewood rehearsing Cinderella for Kenneth Branagh, so I’ve been doing that during the day and then the shows in the evening. My character? When Cinderella is five-years-old she loses her mum and she’s a good mum, that’s all I can really say, that it’s her biological mum. I’m really looking forward to working with him [Branagh], he knows how your mind works, so its wonderful. He’s very thorough, like a theatre director. It’s with Cate Blanchett as well so I’m in very good company – she’s quite an extraordinary artist and I’ve been huge fan of her work.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
