I’d been especially excited to see what Australian director Justin Kurzel would follow-up haunting and unforgettable fact-based thriller SNOWTOWN with. It soon transpired it would be another film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s MACBETH, with the brilliant Michael Fassbender as the dark and devious title character. While it had been rumoured Natalie Portman would portray his scheming spouse who’d later become the Queen of Scotland, we can confirm the role has gone to another Oscar-winner.
Marion Cotillard has boarded the See-Saw Films production of “the Scottish play”, currently slated to shoot in January. Studiocanal is financing the majority of the picture with Film4 handling international sales.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
