With a now confirmed director in Sam Taylor-Johnson, casting rumours are beginning to rear their heads again as the adaptation of E.L. James’ filthy page-flicker FIFTY SHADES OF GREAT enters film production. We’ve had names like Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer and Stephen Amell linked to the role of the millionaire playboy businessman Christian Grey. As for virginal college student Anastasia Steele, who falls for his charms (and kinky fetishes), Emma Watson and Mila Kunis have been mentioned.
Well, we could be a step closer to finding out as Dakota Johnson (21 JUMP STREET, the forthcoming NEED FOR SPEED and daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith) is the latest actress to be linked to the role of lead female, while SONS OF ANARCHY and PACIFIC RIM’s Charlie Hunnam is now strongly tipped to play Christian Grey.
Of course, it’s still all speculation at the moment and until we have confirmation from Universal Studios, we’re sure to have more names in the frame. The film has a screenplay by Kelly Marcel and is slated for cinemas 1st August 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
