I have to say I’m not surprised by this news as DESPICABLE ME 2 was truly the best fun I’d had in ages for summer animation and although it may not have had the sheer quirk of the first one – it was a lot of ridiculous fun which you can read in my 4-star review by clicking here. It’s now been announced that it’s beaten the sadness out of LES MISERABLES by £3 milion taking £43 million (minion?) and counting.
THN also knew that last week Universal Pictures were having one of their best years in their history by making a mind-boggling $1.8 billion already, so I think they’ll also be pretty happy with this news. David Kosse, president of international for Universal Pictures, had this to say:
“When we first saw Despicable Me 2, we knew we had something quite special on our hands. The Minions are a force to be reckoned with, and their mischievous nature and good-hearted sense of humor is what makes the film such a fan favorite. We’re delighted that U.K. audiences have continued to enjoy it as much as we do.”
Directed by Chris Renaud & Pierre Coffin and produced by Illumination Founder, the blockbuster voice cast includes Steve Carell, Kristin Wiig, Benjamin Bratt, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand, Steve Coogan, Ken Jeong, Elsie Fisher, Dana Gaier and Moises Arias. GO SEE IT, if you can still, of course.
Dan loves writing, film, music and photography. Originally from Devon, he did London for 4 years and now resides in Exeter. He also has a mild obsession with squirrels and cake. The latter being more of a hobby. Favourite movies include HIGH FIDELITY, ALMOST FAMOUS, ROXANNE, GOOD WILL HUNTING, JURASSIC PARK, too many Steve Martin films and Nolan's BATMAN universe.
