Tarsem Singh To Direct Race Against Time Thriller ‘The Panopticon’

Tarsem SinghTarsem Singh tends to be loved or hated. There’s no doubt he prefers to concentrate on visuals rather than character interactions and plot development, but his films look like no other and are usually breathtaking. He left 6 years between his oddball serial killer thriller THE CELL and his undisputed classic THE FALL, and then there was another 5 years hiatus between that and IMMORTALS, but it seems as though Singh (who has been credited over his productions as simply Tarsem, and then Tarsem SIngh, and sometimes Tarsem Singh Dhandwar), is looking to be more prolific and diverse. He followed up his sword and sandels epic IMMORTALS with a family friendly adaptation of the Snow White tale in MIRROR, MIRROR.

Latest rumblings tell of a new project Singh is interested in, that being science-fiction thriller THE PANOPTICON. Craig Rosenberg, writer of A TALE OF TWO SISTERS remake THE UNINVITED and AFTER THE SUNSET, has penned the screenplay which sees a man being warned that via a recorded message that only he can save the world. He must race against the clock to ensure the world doesn’t end, because that would be really bad for humanity. This isn’t the first sci-fi film Singh has flirted with, as he is also showing interest in the Ryan Reynolds led SELFLESS. Whatever film Singh chooses as his next project is bound to have my interest, and a sci-fi universe will be the perfect place for him to show off his visuals.
