The Plot: The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal…

Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) — with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard — are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time – six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother.

15th December 2011– The first teaser has hit the net for the much anticipated THE EXPENDABLES 2 (see above), which has famously collected the biggest action movie ensemble ever. And the trailer is keen to show you just just who is in it, including Thor’s little brother, Liam Hemsworth. It has to be said, it is quite unintentionally funny, what with the overblown CG-knives-in-the-eyes logo and, well. My new favourite term is “Also, Van Damme.” I don’t know why that makes me laugh out loud, but it does.

Directed by CON AIR’S Simon West, THE EXPENDABLES II stars the returning Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, along with additional action icons Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris as well as newcomers Nan Yu and Liam Hemsworth.

9th November 2011–

Remember the last time we posted Expendables II set photos, we promised to let you know when Jean Claude shows up? Well, like a mulleted roundhouse kick to the chops, he’s here.

Jean-Claude Van Damme can be seen relaxing between takes and simulating suicide. It’s unknown whether he will actually share any scenes with the likes of fellow straight-to-DVD icons Dolph Lundgren or Chuck Norris. But one thing is for sure, nobody hustles like the Muscles from Brussels.

I believe it was the immortal Bard who once said, ‘Bloody Hell! Look at the size of Terry Crews!’

Never were those words more appropriate, as we gaze upon these testosterone tinged photos from the set of THE EXPENDABLES II. Here we see returning action allumni Sly Stallone, Terry Crews, Randy Couture and Dolph Lundgren with new addition, Chuck Norris.

Production continues inBulgaria with this all star line up, though no release date has been announced. And we’ll keep you posted as to when JCVD pops up.

24th October 2011 – I swear right down to the ground that I posted a feature a number of years ago that basically came up with the idea of throwing the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Chuck, Norris, Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren into a film together. True story, and look, in 2012 we will see it in the form of THE EXPENDABLES 2. Now, I’m not proclaiming to have come up with the idea for this piece of casting gold; I’m just saying… well, it may have sowed a seed… Shame I can’t find said article but still…

The very first image of action legend Chuck Norris on the set of the film has just been posted online, and here it is!

The film falls into cinemas on 17th August, 2012 (US). Check out the awesome, and indeed seventy year old Chuck on set below.

12th October 2011 -If I every had the opportunity to put into place a dream movie cast where I could cast three actors into one movie together then this would be it. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis will all star in THE EXPENDABLES 2.

Arnie tweeted this image from the set of the movie yesterday, along with the following message:

“Back in action for The Expendables 2! I’m having a fantastic time on set with Bruce and Sly in Bulgaria.”

Wow. The film also stars Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jason Statham and Liam Hemsworth. The film is directed by Simon West.

It will be released next year.

14th September 2011 – Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van Damme have officially been announced as cast members for THE EXPENDABLES 2! We kinda knew that that would be the case and it was just a matter of time before it was all confirmed officially, but here is the big news….  it looks like FACE/OFF duo John Travolta and Nicolas Cage MIGHT be joining the cast… emphasis on the ‘might’ there people…

Stallone spoke to EW.

“It’s possible,” he said of the unconfirmed casting, “The one thing I’ve learned is what is a fact on Monday is a complete fallacy on Tuesday. A lot of it is scheduling. It’s not financial. It’s just that Bulgaria is definitely a jaunt. It’s a commitment, you know what I mean? Especially in the dead of winter.”

Stallone also told EW about a potential face off between him and the aforementioned ‘Muscles From Brussels (TM).’

“We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one.”

12th September 2011 – If I had a magic button that could whisk me off to any location in the world in a split second, then that button would be programmed to transport me to Toronto, as that is the place to be film-wise at present as indeed this year’s TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) is currently taking place.

One such outlet that is out there at the moment is Collider, who scored this massive exclusive with Jason Statham, in town to discuss his next project KILLER ELITE, which is released here in the UK later this month.

The guys caught up with the Stath and the conversation turned to that other action movie in the works for the hardman, something called THE EXPENDABLES 2. It seems that the start of the shoot is closer than we think!

Yeah they start in two weeks time. Literally, I’m gonna go from one – I’m making a movie with Taylor Hackford in New Orleans called Parker, I’m going straight from there to Bulgaria. That’s where we’re at, Expendables 2 Bulgaria.

Statham did refuse to confirm or indeed deny as to who else is in the movie. We’ve heard rumblings of the involvement of Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris over the past week or so, none of whom are confirmed as of yet.

THE EXPENDABLES 2 is set for a US release on August 17, 2012. Simon West will direct.

7th September 2011 – Production begins next month on the sequel to THE EXPENDABLES, and Deadlinehave reported that Bruce Willis and The Governator are set to ‘substantially’ expand on their cameos from the first film. Apart from recent news that Chuck Norris, JCVD and some third guy have been signed for roles, no other actors have been confirmed as of yet, but many of the original film’s cast are likely to return. With Stallone stepping down from the directors chair to focus on acting and writing, Simon West (CON AIR, LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER) has been recruited for directing duties.

Currently filming scenes for G.I. JOE 2, Bruce Willis seems to have sequel fever as he plans to shoot DIE HARD 5 and RED 2 after wrapping up THE EXPENDABLES 2. The long absent Schwarzenegger has Jee-Woon Kim’s (THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE WEIRD) Western, THE LAST STAND, in his sights for 2012/2013.

5th September 2011 – THN found THE EXPENDABLES a tad disappointing, but did enjoy seeing so many of our favourite action heroes collaborating together on the same film. Moviehole via millenniumfilms revealed a few more confirmed cast members for the imminent sequel, and they are, unsurprisingly, bulky beefcakes too.

Jean Claude Van Damme (KICKBOXER, DOUBLE IMPACT), Chuck Norris (THE DELTA FORCE, MISSING IN ACTION), and relative newcomer Scott Adkins (THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM) will join the production, which is due to be directed by Simon West (CON AIR, THE GENERAL’S DAUGHTER). Van Damme and Adkins are set to be antagonists; they will portray corrupt mercenaries who take on Stallone and his band of barrel chested heroes. Norris, it seems, will be making a cameo appearance.

There are also – unfounded as yet – rumours that Peter Weller (ROBOCOP) will join the crew in some capacity, but we will have to wait for more information on that one.

THE EXPENDABLES 2 is due for release in the UK in August 2012.

1st August 2011 – Though Sylvester Stallone’s THE EXPENDABLES proved relatively underwhelming, as far as casting goes, it was an action fan’s wet dream. And if rumours are to be believed, the upcoming sequel is set to follow suit. According to Novinite (couretsy of Collider), who interviewed Bulgarian film company Nu Boyana head honcho David Varod, some big action stars have been attached to the Bulgarian shoot of THE EXPENDABLES 2. Varod apparently mentioned returning cast members Sly Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. But the big news is that he also dropped the names John Travolta, Chuck Norris, and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Ouch. That’s a whole lotta man.

At this stage, of course, any whisperings of casting deatails are little more than rumours. However, if this is the genuine line-up, action die-hards can look forward to a rip-roaring treat. Let’s hope the extra star power can lend a little more punch than Sly’s original.

THE EXPENDABLES 2 will be directed by Simon West and is set for an August 2012 release.

16th June 2011 – Variety are reporting that CON AIR director Simon West has signed on to direct THE EXPENDABLES II. Sylvester Stallone will be starring in the film, but won’t direct this time around, according to the trade.

Filming is set to kick off this summer on the film for a 2012 release. Joining Sly in the movie is Jason Statham with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson, who are all rumoured to also co-star.

West also directed THE GENERAL’S DAUGHTER and this year’s THE MECHANIC, which also starred Statham.

Release date for THE EXPENDABLES II is set for August 17th, 2012.

9th March 2011 – Probably the biggest news of the day is that Sylvester Stallone has revealed that he will not be directing the sequel to last year’s massive hit movie THE EXPENDABLES.

Speaking to 24 Frames, the actor/ writer/ director revealed that he will also not be writing the film, leaving it to SPACE COWBOYS and CURIOUS GEORGE scripters David Agosto and Ken Kaufman.

The original movie, despite getting luke warm reviews upon it’s initial release, made just under $275 million at the international box-office. Stallone wrote, directed and starred in the movie, but it looks lke his only role in the sequel will be the latter one, as well as possibly producing.

There are no other names attached to the project at present, but the directing vacancy is currently out to prospective helmers.

17th January 2011 – The legend that is one Mr. Bruce Willis, spilled some beans at last night’s glittering Golden Globe awards in Beverly Hills. Spilling beans? What on? I hear you asking. Well, THE EXPENDABLES 2 of course. It seems that, according to the DIE HARD star, who appeared in the first movie for all of two minutes, will be appearing in the next one too… if he gets his way.

“Apparently it’s going to happen this year,” he said.

“As far as I know, barring any unforeseen circumstances, but yeah, I would love to be a part of it,” he said.
