Okey Dokey There’s No Loki For ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’

Some will gasp, some will sigh, others will be indifferent at the news Tom Hiddleston says Loki will not be in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. Speaking to our mates at Entertainment Weekly he had this to say:

 “He’s (Loki) not in it… Here’s the thing: I don’t think there’s anything else Loki could contribute to THE AVENGERS, narratively. Joss gave me so many wonderful things to do in that first film that we’d only be trying to repeat ourselves, and probably less well in the second one.”

So there you have it, there will be a new villain for the AVENGERS second outing, whom we’re not sure but the speculation can begin below. As for Hiddleston, well we will see him in THOR 2: THE DARK WORLD with him proclaiming :

“Oh, I’ve got plenty to do in THOR 2, believe me. A lot of new stuff. It’s a new iteration of the character, it’s a new development. Another trick, another poker game for the god of mischief. And he plays it well.”

Fans of Hiddleston will probably be aghast at what I’m about to say but I’m very happy that Loki won’t be in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. But before you begin trolling me on twitter and I have to call the Police, like some in the journalistic world, allow me to explain. During AVENGERS Loki went from being a fear-inducing God, to a pantomime villain in the space of two hours. Whilst entertaining, the scene where Hulk throws him around like a rag-doll did nothing for a villain who will appear in the next THOR film and had just almost caused the death of planet earth (well, New York). To ask an audience to see him as a genuine threat in another film with these characters would have been near impossible and I for one applaud Whedon’s willingness to look at developing a new villain and taking us deeper into the Marvel universe. Roll on Summer 2015.
