While it had been rumoured for sometime, it appears Christopher McQuarrie has sealed a deal to reunite with Tom Cruise as the director of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5. We await confirmation from Paramount Pictures and Cruise’s Skydance Productions but the tweet below coming from McQuarrie speaks for itself.

Cruise recently vacated as the lead on Guy Ritchie’s THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. to concentrate on progressing the fifth film in the spy franchise based on the cult television series. IRON MAN 3 screenwriter Drew Pearce was also brought onboard but McQuarrie being a screenwriter himself is sure to want to collaborate.

Both Cruise and McQuarrie worked together on Bryan Singer’s underrated war drama VALKYRIE, the brilliant big-screen, B-movie-like adaptation of author Lee Child’s novel ‘One Shot’ with JACK REACHER and the forthcoming sci-fi epic EDGE OF TOMORROW (formally ALL YOU NEED IS KILL).

**UPDATE**

Cruise has since confirmed that McQuarrie will indeed direct MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
