With the news hitting last year that the Coen Brothers were working together with FX to create a TV adaptation of their brilliant dark crime comedy FARGO, people were equally appalled and excited by the prospect, however little to nothing was revealed afterwards up until the point where most people simply forgot (me included)…until now!
It has just been revealed that Coen regular Billy Bob Thornton (THE MAN WHO WASN’T THERE, INTOLERABLE CRUELTY) has signed on to star as Lorne Malvo, a scrupulous man who manipulates a small-town insurance salesman on a path that probably won’t end well. The project itself is not a straight up adaptation of the film as the story is based around an original crime and an original cast of characters. Only the setting and tone of the film is supposed to be the same.
Personally I think it is a great idea of going about it, trying to create something new within the framework of the original film, and getting Billy Bob Thornton on board is great move. The fact that the Coen Brothers are involved (they will serve as Executive Producers on the project) is a good sign, and overall I’m positive about the project. But what do you guys think? Let us know in the comments.
