Yet More Reshoots For Marvel’s Troubled ‘Thor: The Dark World’

thor-2

While we were treated to a Marvel-ous introduction by Tom Hiddleston for the latest THOR: THE DARK WORLD footage over at San Diego Comic Con, the lack of cast and crew panel spoke volumes of the fears for the demigod’s return. It’s well known there are serious problems behind-the-scenes that initially began once GAME OF THRONES regular director Alan Taylor took over the late reins from original choice Patty Jenkins. Since then, Taylor and Marvel chief Kevin Feige have been butting heads over the finished film’s running time with Taylor’s vision coming in at 150 minutes, while Feige is adamant he’s contracted for a cut no longer than 120 minutes. Hemsworth was also unhappy with his contracted paycheck despite the success of the first film and his AVENGERS appearance.

A mediator was also rumoured to have been brought in to broker a compromise with that shorter run time allowing the studio more screenings upon release, hence more money but at what cost to the director’s integrity? Music composer Carter Burwell was also forced to leave the project over creative differences, this despite his name appearing on the first official poster. Red faces all round. Now stunning co-stars Kat Dennings and Jaimie Alexander have confirmed more reshoots are underway. While this is not uncommon for pick-up shots, to go with the set already organised and completed months after wrapping, it proves all is not well. What is perhaps most worrying is that the film is set for release in just over three months!

Marvel Studios intergalactic comic-book sequel THOR: THE DARK WORLD will (hopefully) see Chris Hemsworth’s hammer-swinging superhero battle Christopher Eccleston’s evil Malekith and his army of Dark Elves. He’ll also be reunited with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and fellow Earth pals Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård), who’ll help out in defeating these evildoers.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD co-stars Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins. It’s expected in cinemas 8th November.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

This film’s gonna be a bloody mess. The first trailer looked truly horrible. Branagh did wonders with the first, think this will show just how good a job he managed!
