‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’ Officially In The Works

EddieBH

Following the small scale television series pilot centring on the son of Detroit cop Axel Foley that CBS decided not to move to series despite have Eddie Murphy’s involvement in front of and behind the camera, you’d have thought that was the end for Paramount Pictures’ BEVERLY HILLS COP franchise. It appears not as Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, best known for their work on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL, have been hired to pen the screenplay for BEVERLY HILLS COP 4.

While the project has had a number of false starts over years since John Landis’ much-maligned third action adventure for Murphy’s smart-mouthed detective, this is probably going to happen this time around and may just help see if that failed attempt at a series was the right decision not to go to air. To be fair to Murphy, he’s in desperate need of a hit having not seen success outside of kids animation/comedy in over a decade, so returning to a signature role may not be a bad move.

We’ll keep you posted as the project comes together but it will be interesting to see if it in anyway ties to that pilot and whether Brandon T. Jackson, who played his son in the CBS financed project, is included. I think it’s safe to say if the script is strong, we’ll see that pilot picked up by someone to gain a bit of momentum for the sequel’s release.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
