Rupert Grint To Make West End Debut Alongside Ben Whishaw

Rupert Grint 800x600

HARRY POTTER star Rupert Grint will make his West End debut later this year in a revival of Jez Butterworth’s Mojo at The Harold Pinter Theatre.  He will be joined by Ben Whishaw who has just starred in Peter and Alice alongside Dame Judi Dench, also a fellow cast member in Sam Mendes’ SKYFALL.

Grint, best known for his role as teenage wizard Ron Weasley in the HARRY POTTER franchise, has starred in indie flicks CHERRYBOMB and WILD TARGET and recently completed filming on CBGB; a dramatic look at the New York City punk-scene and at the club at the middle of it all.  Completing the cast announcements so far are Brendan Coyle (Downtown Abbey) and Daniel Mays (Mrs Biggs).

Mojo is a black comedy set in a Soho nightclub in the 1950s and tells the story of a rock singer with star potential who gets caught up in the club’s lifestyle.  Grint has signed on to play a drug-addicted criminal involved in the club’s dodgy dealings. The play first opened in 1995 to great success – winning an Oliver Award and being adapted into a film in 1997. Original director Ian Rickson is back at the helm of the revival and said of Grint:

‘I’d seen the Potter films with my daughter and always thought Rupert was truthful as Ron Weasley. There’s something ordinary and centred about him, and in this world of Mojo you want that grittiness.’

The production is set to open October 26th 2013 with ticket going on sale in September.
