Mike Myers have been really quiet in terms of on screen roles for the past 10 years or so with the dismal ‘comedy’, THE LOVE GURU and a weird ass cameo in INGLORIOUS BASTERDS the only live action roles of note since 2003. In between that he’s done a few SHREK related films and there’s been ever present rumours of another instalment in the AUSTIN POWERS franchise. Now it seems he is ready to return to the cinema, although in an entirely different direction than anyone of us could have expected.

First of all he will be going behind the camera, which in itself is a first, but he will also do so be in charge of a documentary. We will give you a second to let that sink in……..okay? Awesome. The film is to be called SUPERMENSCH and the subject of the film will be the Talent & Music Manager, Ship Gordon. Gordon once managed as diverse names as Blondie, Luther Vandross, Alice Cooper & Raquel Welch. Myers met him during production of the original WAYNE’S WORLD as the filmmakers attempted to get the rights to the Alice Cooper song, ‘Feed My Frankenstein’. After that a friendship was born between the two, as Myers himself says.

I met Shep Gordon in 1991 on the set of Wayne’s World. I thought he was a perfect combination of Brian Epstein, Marshall McLuhan and Mr Magoo. I’ve been trying to get Shep to agree to let me make a movie about him for 10 years. Last year he finally he said yes. I loved him like a brother before we started making this film and now having sifted through his life and his legacy, I love him even more.

The film will reportedly have interviews from a lot of Hollywood people including Alice Cooper himself, Sylvester Stallone, and Michael Douglas. Honestly, I’m always excited to hear about films that the filmmakers themselves are really passionate about, that’s in my opinion half the battle. Now I may think that Mike Myers is very rarely truly funny, but this sounds like it could be a good little film and may be worth the watch.

Esben Evans is the Danish contingent on this site. He enjoys films, swearing a lot, and a nice pair of slacks.
