Joseph Gordon-Levitt Favourite For Next Batman But…Gosling Not Far Behind!

Joseph-Gordon-Levitt

Yeah, yeah, everyone’s talking about that Batman and Superman merger (I’ve made it all business-like) but there’s also nothing better than a little bet to give us an unsubtle insight to where the money is heading.

Although JGL remains favourite to take on the role in the follow-up to MAN OF STEEL that was beautifully revealed at Comic Con 2013 this year, read all about it here, but there’s a new guy on the scene. We say ‘new guy’ but we mean every man and woman’s current favourite Ryan Gosling. While Gordon-Levitt takes the lead at 3/1, Hollywood heart throbs Ryan Gosling and Chris Pine have hit 10/1. which isn’t too shabby.

BUT, even though he has announced his retirement from the role, you can never say never which is why Bale is up there with the favourites at 12/1, especially as we wait to see the true involvement of Christopher Nolan as that would have a massive sway. There’s also the supposed ‘veteran’ action stars in the shape of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are both long shots running at 40/1 but we think not for those geezers.

For those interested, here’s the full list and with Boreanaz in there I’d say throw a tenner on me as well. So, if it’s between JGL and Gosling, should we make them fight? Yeah, I digress:

10/1 Ryan Gosling
10/1 Chris Pine

16/1 Josh Brolin
16/1 Michael C. Hall
18/1 Jon Hamm
18/1 Matt Bomer

There are some horrible, horrible choices on that list (JGL being one of them, along with Worthington and Gyllenhaal to name a few). And I’m very surprised that a certain already looks like a superhero actor who has been vocal for a Batman role (and almost was Superman) wasn’t mentioned. Mr. Joe Manganiello. However they may not want a Batman that looks like he could destroy Superman.

There are indeed some horrible choices on the list. I agree with Grayson. I don’t know why names like Liam Hemsworth and Anthony Mackie are on the list. No disrespect to either, but Hemsworth is too young for the role and Mackie is, well, he’s not exactly a reflection of Batman. We all saw how the ‘fans’ reacted when Benedict Cumberbatch was cast in as Khan in the ST movie. We don’t want so much racial involvement circling such a respectable recreation of a legendary character.

I’d also like to point out that, most these veteran names are too old to play Batman. We need someone who’s in his early 30’s or late 20’s. Someone who looks like Batman material. Most these names are unfit for the role whether the fans want them or not. Of course, they’d be amazing to watch filling in other roles, but Batman? Please..

Christian Bale was amazing in the trilogy and we’ll always love him. But by the time they produce another Batman movie with him, he’d be so much older than Batman should be. Besides, like he said, it’s time for the torched to be passed.

    Thanks for the list, Dan!

The age of the actor portraying Batman should depend partly on how old the character is in the movie itself. Maybe he’s supposed to be a slightly older Batman. Actors without strong masculine features and baby faced actors need not apply. Just because someone is popular doesn’t make him perfect to play an older darker character.

Go for JGL. He’s taken on a wide range of roles that have required significant changes in appearance and persona (Hesher to 500 Days, Brick to TDKR) and has delivered every time. And even though he bulked up for Don Jon, let’s not forget it really hinges on the acting. (Marvel’s Iron Man worked not because of RDJ’s physical match but because his wit, charm, heart, and physicality created a character people can care about and enjoy seeing on screen. Gordon-Levitt has this kind of talent, as well, so it’s no surprise he’s also Marvel’s frontrunner to lead THEIR next franchise as Dr. Strange.)

Back in the DC Universe, Nolan and Bale passed on the torch to JGL. Will either rumor happen? I say, let’s see what he can do.

First I have a question,is Batman & Superman suppose to be a team or is Batman going to be bad or something?

JGL seems like he’d be too short to play Batman. How about we get George Clooney again. lol 😉

If Star Trek 3 is going be shot in 2014 like it’s being talked about… then scratch Chris Pine and Karl Urban off the list. Both of them were already signed to do the third installment.

And I love Matt Bomer, but I’m not so sure that him and Batman are a good fit.
