WANTED and NIGHTWATCH director Timur Bekmambetov is jumping on the Frank L. Baum bandwagon by offering us yet another vision of the fantasy world. Bekmambetov is all set to produce, and possibly direct, WARRIORS OF OZ as a miniseries for SyFy. Three warriors known as Heartless, Brainless, and Coward (guess who they’re based on) must travel a post-apocalyptic Oz in order to destroy an evil wizard.
This wouldn’t be the first time a miniseries centered around Oz has hit the SyFy channel, as THE WITCHES OF OZ, premiered back in 2011. However, that didn’t have a big name such as Bekmambetov behind the camera. With Sam Raimi’s recent box-office hit OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL as well as an upcoming animated film LEGEND OF OZ: DOROTHY’S RETURN, it seems as though the yellow brick road is forking off into all kinds of directions.
