The only name previously attached to the as yet untitled Freddie Mercury biopic Sacha Baron Cohen is no longer attached the to project due to creative differences. The remaining members of Queen have approval over the script of the movie and it looks as though it’s turning out a little too tame for the man behind BORAT and BRUNO.
THE KINGS SPEECH director Tom Hooper is rumoured to be on board to direct the project which has been co-written by Peter Morgan (THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, FROST/NIXON) and will be a chronicle of the years leading up to the bands Live Aid performance in 1985. The project would have been a reunion for Hooper and Cohen who worked together on LES MISÉRABLES.
Cohen will next be seen on our screens in ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND CONTINUES at the end of this year alongside Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell.
