Tom Sturridge Lands ‘Far From The Madding Crowd’ Role

Tom Sturridge 800x600

The Fox Searchlight adaptation of the Thomas Hardy novel FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD has gained another of it’s male leads today as it was confirmed Tom Sturridge has signed on to play the dashing Sergeant Francis Troy.  Carey Mulligan has already been confirmed to play the female lead, Bathsheba Everdene, who juggles three potential suitors in the dramatic 19th century love story. Matthias Schoenaerts (RUST AND BONE) will take the role of farmer Gabriel who has his marriage proposal turned down at the beginning of the story.

Sturridge’s rise has been slow and steady since he took on small roles in VANITY FAIR and THE BOAT THAT ROCKED. His biggest role to date has been in another book adaption; this time Walter Salles’ 2012 ON THE ROAD which was adapted from the novel by Jack Kerouac.  Whilst continuing his big screen career Sturridge is also an accomplished stage actor and has just finished his role in the Broadway play Orphans alongside Alec Baldwin for which he was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance.

Filming will begin in mid-September in Dorset and the movie is due on our screens in 2014.
