Melissa Benoist, who has just been promoted to a series regular as Marley on FOX’s Glee, has begun her transition into the big screen with the news she is to join the cast of Dan Fogelman’s IMAGINE – the story of an aging rock star who changes his priorities to give up that lifestyle and reconnect with the son he never knew. This is Fogelman’s directorial debut having written the screenplays for movies including CRAZY, STUPID LOVE, TANGLED, CARS and CARS 2.

The film’s cast already includes Al Pacino, Michael Caine, Jennifer Garner, Annette Benning and Bobby Cannavale and the official synopsis is here:

An old letter written to him by John Lennon and Yoko Ono inspires an aging musician (Pacino) to live life differently, and he sets out to reconnect with his biological son.

The film has been in production for a while; originally it was set to be released by Warner Bros and even after it changed hands to be independently financed the cast was looking very different – Julianne Moore and Jeremy Renner were in the first line up. Al Pacino as an ageing rock star sounds like great alternative casting and shooting is expected to start this month in Los Angeles.
