Netflix are slowly but surely getting it together with their original programming, with ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK looking set to be the new break for the streaming service.
Based on the novel by Piper Kerman, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK follows Kerman (played by Taylor Schilling) as she enters a New York prison after being sentenced to 15 months jail time. What for? Smuggling money for international drug dealer and ex-lover Alex Vause (played by That 70s Show star Laura Prepon). We follow Piper as she tries to deal with prison life.
The series is also getting a lot of hype mainly because of the creators. Jenji Kohan and Liz Friedman created the series, and in case you have been living under a rock for the last few years, Kohan created Showtime’s cult smash Weeds. Friedman has written episodes for shows such as Elementary, House and Xena: Warrior Princess. If that was not enough to win you over, the cast includes AMERICAN PIE alumni Jason Biggs and Natasha Lyonne, plus The Wire‘s Pablo Schreiber, who wins best character name with Pornstach.
The hype behind this is going strong at the minute, but you’ll just have to watch the series on Netflix when it premieres tomorrow (11th July) to see if it lives up to it.
TV and Theatre Nerd who will always try and give you a good opinion, unless it is something to do with Bloc Party, then it will be completely biased. Favourite films include: HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH, ALMOST FAMOUS AND MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO.
