What is it about porn star biopics that, more often than than not, become genuine fascinating pieces of cinema. Certainly Paul Thomas Anderson’s sprawling epic BOOGIE NIGHTS (inspired by the tainted life of John Holmes) is the highlight. There’s also the underrated Val Kilmer-led WONDERLAND, which gives a brilliant insight into the latter stages of Holmes’ tragic and turbulent lifestyle, during his involvement in an infamous series of murders.
This means Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s superbly cast LOVELACE has a lot to live up to. Centring on the late DEEP THROAT actress Linda Lovelace, who was forced into the porn industry by her coercive and abusive husband Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard), and quickly became the biggest adult star in the business before later taking control of her life and campaigning for women’s rights.
We’ve this latest ominous one-sheet from the film co-starring Adam Brody, Hank Azaria, Bobby Cannavale, Sharon Stone, Wes Bentley, Juno Temple, Chris Noth, Robert Patrick, Peter Sarsgaard and Sarah Jessica Parker. LOVELACE lands in the US on the 9th August and has a UK release date set for 30th August.
