Just when you think that Hollywood couldn’t get any more bizarre, it looks like the sequel to Steven Soderbergh’s MAGIC MIKE is actually happening. Apparently the sequel will follow some of the elements that was cut out from the first movie – mainly a ‘broad comedy road trip’ according to star of MAGIC MIKE’s Channing Tatum’s producing partner Reid Carolin.
Tatum has revealed that all that needs to happen now is that the story needs ‘cleaning up’ before they make a decision whether Carolin and Tatum will take on directing duties. In an interview, Tatum said:
“It is hard for me and Reid to direct after one of the greatest directors of our time. Steven has argued [for us to do so]. He has said he would shoot it; he would DP it.”
So there you have it, Steven Soderbergh has told Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin that he will take the role as director of photography, as long as the pair take on the directing role. Tatum expressed more concern about following Steven Soderbergh from the first MAGIC MIKE film:
“Because he is such an opinionated and talented man, if he wants to do a five-minute tracking shot through a forest, you don’t want to doubt him. It would be like having sex with your girlfriend while her porn-star ex-boyfriend is in the room watching you.”
Well if we get to see more Hollywood hunks in thongs then we’re game either way…
