The main cast for Sony and Columbia Pictures’ modern ANNIE remake is almost complete as Cameron Diaz is expected to be named in the role of meany orphanage owner Miss Hannigan for the movie musical soon to start production for a Christmas 2014 release. Recently, Sandra Bullock had been in negotiations but is said to have declined the role previously played by Carol Burnett in John Huston’s enjoyable 1982 take on the comic-strip Little Orphan Annie by Harold Gray, subsequently turned into hit Broadway stage show by Thomas Meehan.
Diaz will appear alongside BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD young Oscar-nominee Quvenzhane Wallis as the title character and Best Actor Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, who takes on the billionaire Daddy Warbucks role. Will Smith and Jay-Z are both onboard as producers with the film being directed by EASY A’s Will Gluck. We’re now just awaiting the announcement of unscrupulous ‘parents’ superbly played by the brilliant Tim Curry and Bernadette Peters in the big-screen sing-along.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
