Rick Moranis Talks ‘Ghostbusters 3’ and ‘Spaceballs II’

RMnow

Rick Moranis is an interesting mix of a cult-legend but also a great well-known actor with many deserved plaudits and, quite frankly, we’ve missed him. So with continual rumours of GHOSTBUSTERS 3 happening or not happening, or happening (actually more happening than M. Night Shyamalan’s namesake movie), we’re very intrigued to hear that the comeback we never thought possible, might actually be a possible truth whisper in the trees. There are not only rumours about GB3 though but also Spaceballs II and the original hope for more! Here’s Rick in his own words talking to Heeb:

“My idea for it was Spaceballs III: The Search for Spaceballs II. And I was unable to make a deal with Mel. I couldn’t make a deal.”

It’s a pity that never got off the ground and to keep us all in reality, that’ll surely never happen now. However, Ackroyd seems resolute that we’ll get some form of GHOSTBUSTERS 3 and so maybe there’s the chance of a little cameo or return of his Louis Tully?

“I got a call three or four years ago from an associate of Aykroyd’s. Some sort of producer. And he said, ‘Listen, I gotta ask you something, because the Internet says you’re retired’ — which is one of my favorites, by the way… I just love when the Internet is wrong. It’s the only thing that will save journalism. So he says, ‘I gotta ask, would you do it?’ I said, ‘I don’t say no to anything until everything is presented to me.’ What is it? Is it happening? Is there a script? What’s the part? Who else is in it? Where is it? How long is it gonna take? You know, I need a little bit more information.”

He also added in Empire:

“I said, ‘I wouldn’t not do it, but it’s got to be good.’ You know, I’m not interested in doing anything I’ve already done, and I thought the second one was a disappointment. But I guess I’m interested in where that guy is now. I sort of see him as being Bernie Madoff’s cellmate in jail. Both of them being so orderly that they race to get up and make their beds.”

So there we go – everything is still up in the air but to dream is never a bad thing. Thanks to those guys over at FirstShowing for all the heads up. They also originally directed me towards Rick’s new album My Mother’s Brisket and very excitedly that turned up yesterday.
