If you don’t like your musicals, your mind just might change soon as a new musical on the block looks set to shake up a few conventions of the bright lights of Broadway.
It was revealed that a musical named HOLLA IF YA HEAR ME is currently being workshopped and is being targeted for the Broadway stage. The musical will be set on inner-city streets of a Midwestern industrial city, chronicling the challenges faced by two childhood friends and their extended families. Tupac’s music will be used as the musical unfolds.
The show will be directed by Kenny Leon, better known for A RAISIN IN THE SUN, which starred Sean Combs (that’s right, P Diddy) The Tony winning FENCES, which starred Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, and THE MOUNTAINTOP which starred Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett. There is no set date yet, but don’t be surprised if it heads to the stage at the end of the year or beginning of 2014.
