20th Century Fox Makes ‘Independence Day 2’ Official!

independence_day_2

We’re not entirely sure why,  beyond the obvious positives of a hopeful Box Office, but INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 has been officially given the ‘go’ by the scheduling side of 20th Century Fox.

There’s no doubt the first film, that was actually set on INDEPENDENCE DAY, was a lot of fun and really pushed Will Smith into the film stratosphere but he’ll surely feel a little wounded from his recent close encounter with the rather disappointing and predictable AFTER EARTH. We all know he’s got a determination to stay at the top and so with Jeff Goldblum more or less confirmed for this sequel, could Smith return as well?

Director Roland Emmerich returns with producer Dean Devlin for more Alien-invasion entertainment and they’re going to have to come up with something special beyond self-referential digs and the same old narrative. Saying that, the likes of Michael Bay keep getting away with it and the public do lap up a big blockbuster, whatever the critics say. In fairness, a proper big movie can be done really well and as cinema is also supposed to be all about escapism, I’m happy as long as they bring back Brent Spiner talking through an alien being – or maybe HE’S the Alien now?

We’ll bring you more of INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 as and when we hear it, it’s confirmed for July 3rd 2015.

how can fans expect any characters to return after 16 years? and why on earth did they wait 16 years to start planning a sequal or two sequals? of course will smith will be expensive 16 yrs later into his career despite it NOT being that great as it could have been…… and with AE “failings” will smith sure could use a nose-dive in paycheck….. after 16 yrs i dont really understand why they would do 1 or 2 seuqals, it would be better making a reboot with part 1 and 2 instead of a part 2 and 3… or is the problem that it took 16 yrs for them to write (come up and then write) a sequal to 97 hit ?? it seems so. why else would they wait 16 yrs for more!! ??

Why wouldn’t characters return after 16 years? They don’t have an expiration date or something. It’s also really okay to do a little editing when you type. Something coherent would make it easier to understand what the heck you’re saying.
