While plans for a movie of BBC1’s hit television show LUTHER is only at creation stage at the minute, Detective Chief Inspector John Luther himself Idris Elba did reveal that the movie is a personal ambition for both him and creator Neil Cross, but he did mention that there were no deals on the table.
Elba did mention though that is what the fans want, then he’ll try his best. At the BAFTA screening, Elba said:
“My personal ambition is to see LUTHER as a film, but I’m very loyal to those who have been loyal to us. So if the audience demands another series or a special episode then I think it should happen.”
But he said that the last three series of LUTHER will prepare the fans for the future.
“We did six episodes, then we did four, then we waited a year and a half and then we did another four. That’s training our fans to gear up towards what could be either a film or maybe a television special and then a film.”
But what would the movie be about? Elba hinted that it might be much closer to the original source of LUTHER- Neil Cross’ novel THE CALLING: A JOHN LUTHER NOVEL, following Luther at the start of his career and where he come from. If you are a fan of LUTHER, you will be happy to know it is returning to our screens July 2nd at 9pm on BBC1.
