Calm down! No, your time machine hasn’t worked, it’s just that these film companies like to plan in advance these days. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 doesn’t even land until next year, and already Sony are planning ahead. So if you’re a dedicated web-head, then you may want to scribble these dates down in your diary…although it’s doubtful your diary goes this far ahead. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 will hit cinemas on 10th June 2016, and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4 will arrive on 4th May 2018. Sony are obviously feeling pretty confident with the direction in which their franchise is headed, but I feel as though their should be some kind of industry law preventing such announcements. This is just a case of reserving a decent summer spot to try and rattle the competition. It also sends the clear message that Marvel will not be getting back their rights to the character anytime soon. Whatever happened to focusing on making a decent film instead of working to strict deadlines? Let’s hope we’re not bored of Andrew Garfield’s interpretation over the next 5 years.
This also raises questions as to how the story will pan out. We’ve already had major hints towards a Sinister Six formation in the third installment, so what avenues will a 4th part explore? Perhaps symbiotic suits? Or maybe my personal favourite, The Spot?
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is released 2nd May 2014. It stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Felicity Jones, Martin Sheen, Colm Feore, Shailene Woodley, Paul Giamatti, Chris Cooper, Dane DeHaan and Jamie Foxx.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
