Only this week we brought you news that both Javier Bardem and Idris Elba had joined the cast of TAKEN director Pierre Morel’s assassin thriller, THE GUNMAN, which is being headlined by Sean Penn. Now we have word of Brit brute Ray Winstone’s addition, who’s expected to portray the man Penn’s character learned his killing craft from.

The film is based on the 2002 novel ‘The Prone Gunman’ by Jean-Patrick Manchette and has the following synopsis:

Martin Terrier is a hired killer who wants out of the game — so he can settle down and marry his childhood sweetheart. That’s why he took up this profession! Martin returns to his hometown to claim her, but the Organization won’t let him go. Once again, the gunman must assume the prone shooting position.

Winstone’s firm British acting legend after roles in SCUM, SEXY BEAST and most recently with the big-screen reboot of classic 1970s cop series, THE SWEENEY. American audiences may know him best following supporting roles in EDGE OF DARKNESS, THE DEPARTED and took the motion-captured lead for Robert Zemeckis’ BEOWULF.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
