DISTRICT 9 writer/director Neill Blomkamp’s latest sci-fi spectacle has slowly been building buzz over the last year or so. What began as an exciting mystery project starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and South African muse Sharlto Copley, has grown into one of the must-see blockbusters of the summer and is certainly up there with MAN OF STEEL and PACIFIC RIM as the most intriguing of the still-to-be-released titles of this season. We can’t wait to see what Blomkamp unleashes with this futuristic fable featuring his familiar social commentary.
The first trailer looked damn impressive, while this weeks earlier TV spot gave another exciting taste at what’s to come. Now, just below this simple official plot synopsis, we’ve the brand new epic, extended trailer as well as a brand new still.
The impoverished inhabitants of a ruined planet Earth fight to join the safe and pristine living conditions of the space station Elysium, where only the wealthy and healthy reside. In need of medical treatment only available on Elysium, one resident of the planet’s slums attempts to reach the space station at any cost, and his actions could offset the entire balance of haves and have-nots.
ELYSIUM co-stars William Fichtner, Diego Luna, Alice Braga, Faran Tahir and lands in US cinemas 9th August, while a later UK release date of the 20th September has been scheduled.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
