Vin Diesel’s ‘Riddick’ Gets A Brand New Banner

I’m one of the few that has yet to catch on to the FAST & FURIOUS franchise, but Vin Diesel’s serial-killing antihero Richard B. Riddick is a big labour of love following his arrival in low-budget sleeper sci-fi hit, PITCH BLACK. I didn’t hate the sequel THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, however, I felt the $100 million-plus budget didn’t do it any favours and reduced the conflicted character’s mysterious motivations as something a touch more ‘cuddly’.

With simply-titled threequel RIDDICK, we’re promised by Diesel and director David Twohy, that ruthless streak will return as his shaven-headed, sight-adjusted psycho gets into a spot of bother. The first full trailer looked mightily impressive and this latest banner, just below the official plot synopsis, sets the original’s tone of a lone warrior in an alien wasteland. The film arrives 6th September and co-stars Karl Urban, Jordi Molla, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk and Keri Hilson..

Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy. The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

RIDDICK-BANNER

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
