We’ve a number of casting updates from some exciting, upcoming project currently being prepped in Tinseltown.

First up is news that ALICE IN WONDERLAND and STOKER stunner Mia Wasikowska will take the role recently vacated by the loveable Emma Stone in Guillermo del Toro’s mysterious follow-up project to PACIFIC RIM, the supernatural thriller, CRIMSON PEAK. She’ll appear opposite the already onboard Charlie Hunnam, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jessica Chastain. Filming will begin in February 2014. Expect more monstrous and morbid creations for the visionary director.

Next we have details of two films now attached to Oscar-winning Spanish heartthrob, Javier Bardem. He will appear as the hero in MARGIN CALL director J.C. Chandor’s crime-thriller A MOST VIOLENT YEAR, which is set to shoot in Manhattan in October. He’ll also star opposite Sean Penn in TAKEN director Pierre Morel’s THE GUNMAN. The actioner centres on an international who spy must clear his name before his former Government employers wipe him out. Expect Bardem back on villain duties for this one.

They’ve been a strong list of names linked the lead of the anticipated big-screen biopic of Hilary Clinton with RODHAM. However, word has come that Carey Mulligan will headline the rise of the former First Lady in the film directed by James Ponsoldt. It will chart her ascent as the youngest lawyer chosen for the House Judiciary Committee to Impeach President Nixon, who soon finds herself forced to choose between a destined path to the White House and her unresolved feelings for Arkansas law teacher, Bill Clinton.

Finally, Mark Osborne’s upcoming animated adaptation of the classic children’s tale, THE LITTLE PRINCE, has landed an all-star core cast of voice talent. There are no details on which roles they’ll play in the film based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s novel, but Jeff Bridges, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro, James Franco, Paul Giamatti and Rachel McAdams will all lend their tones to story of a pilot who crashes in the Sahara desert and who meets a young Prince, who lives on an asteroid and is currently on Earth as part of a journey to travel the universe learning the ways of other lifeforms.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
