‘Inherent Vice’ Lines Up Katherine Waterston

Katherine Waterston 800x600

Paul Thomas Anderson’s INHERENT VICE continues to extend it’s already star-studded cast, as it’s been announced that Katherine Waterston has joined the line-up.  The new project from THE MASTER director has a cast list ripe for envy, with Joaquin Phoenix, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro, Reese Witherspoon, Martin Short and Jena Malone already confirmed (and Sean Penn’s name being thrown into the mix as well).

Waterston, in comparison to her co-stars, is a relative newbie to the industry and you’d be forgiven for not immediately recalling the name. She has held supporting roles in MICHAEL CLAYTON, ROBOT & FRANK and THE FACTORY, as well as a multi-episode arc on the HBO series BOARDWALK EMPIRE.  In addition to film, Waterston is also well known on the New York theatre circuit.  Her star is set to rise in 2013 with films such as THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY: HERS, in which she stars alongside Jessica Chastain, and NIGHT MOVES with Jesse Eisenburg and Dakota Fanning.

INHERENT VICE, adapted from a Thomas Pynchon novel, tells the story of a marijuana-favouring detective (Phoenix) hired to investigate the disappearance and murder of a girl he used to date.  Waterston is rumoured to have landed the part of the ex-girlfriend, a part originally thought to have gone to Witherspoon.  With most roles yet to be announced who knows what other A listers will become attached to the project.
